How to write a CV that gets you interviews is an important issue for most of our career coaching clients. The start point is to remember that the purpose of your CV is to tell the recruiter how well you fit the job for which you are applying. It is not to give a full biographical account of your life.
The advice and guidance given in this article is based on our work with our career coaching clients. Often when people are unsuccessful at interviews you will hear them say things like; I was very nervous, some of the interview questions were very difficult, I forgot to tell the interviewer about a really important achievement.
When they are told they will be having a competency based interview many of our career coaching clients start to panic because they do not know what to expect. However in reality these types of interview are easier to prepare for than others. This article explains how competency based interviews work. It gives you an example of a typical set of competencies and tells you how to prepare. As a Career Coach I have worked with many career coaching clients who have successfully used networking to get a job ahead of their competition. In many cases they did not initially understand what networking was all about, or how to go about doing it. Some were also concerned that networking would be difficult and may mean ‘cold calling’ or just taking from others. By using the tips in this guide networking can be fun, easy and effective.
